Congratulations to Our 2026 Scholarship Recipients

Celebrated at the CGS April Awards Ceremony

Each spring, the Coast Geological Society comes together for one of our most cherished traditions — honoring the outstanding students who represent the future of our geoscience community. This April, we were proud to gather with colleagues, educators, and supporters to celebrate the achievements of this year's scholarship recipients.

These students were nominated by their advisers and recognized for their dedication, curiosity, and passion for the earth sciences. It was an evening filled with inspiration, and a reminder of why the work of this society matters.

We are deeply grateful to the Pacific Section of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (PSAAPG) and all of our generous donors whose contributions make these scholarships possible year after year. Together, we are investing in the next generation of geoscientists.

Students -  contact your adviser to get nominated for one of our student scholarships for April 2027.

Testimonials from Our Recipients

The impact of your support is best expressed by those who have benefited directly. Below is a testimonial from the Santa Barbara City College (SBCC) Earth and Planetary Sciences Department:

'The SBCC Earth and Planetary Sciences Dept. received a very generous gift from the Coast Geological Society on the evening of the student research presentations and scholarships. Thank you! We will put this in our "Friends of the Earth Sciences" account where it will support students to continue to attend CGS meetings in the future student participation on our field courses and small scholarships we give internally in our department.

As you know we actively support CGS and CGS actively supports us not only through gifts like this but by subsidizing dinners for our students and providing a venue for enrichment and networking the value of which to our students is greater than you probably know. CGS's support is very much appreciated and has been over the many years.'

With gratitude,
Dr. Bill Dinklage,
Professor, SBCC Dept. of Earth and Planetary Sciences

Support Our Mission Through Donations!

Your generous donations ensure that we can continue to provide scholarships to deserving students. We now accept donations through PayPal, allowing you to specify which scholarship you would like to support. For example, you can choose to donate directly to the John Woolley Scholarship or contribute to a general fund that helps where it is most needed.

Your donation, no matter the amount, makes a real difference. With your help, we can continue to fund scholarships that allow students to pursue their passion for geoscience. Consider supporting one of our named scholarships, like the John Woolley Scholarship, or making a general donation to ensure funds are available where they are needed most.

Looking Ahead – Creative Fundraising Initiatives
As we continue to explore new fundraising opportunities, your ideas and contributions are invaluable. We are optimistic that with your help, we can exceed our goals and provide even more scholarships in the coming years.
