Join me on a road trip from Granada Hills to Mono Lake as we encounter lava flows, cinder cones, hot springs, the Los Angeles aqueduct, and much more. My late husband, Peter Weigand and I, explored various volcanic areas and I learned so much from him. I will include some of my family history and fun family stories. My great grandfather, Charles Walter, settled in the Owens Valley and had a brewery and a cattle ranch. His son, my grandfather, Carl Julius Walters, was a game warden and was instrumental in getting the Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery built and the pheasants brought back into the valley after the water was sent south. Most of the water coming to the San Fernando Valley comes from the Owens Valley/Long Valley so I am a traitor to my homeland living in Granada Hills. These two valleys have so much to offer, and friends have stayed in Bishop and done day trips in the area to enjoy fishing, hunting, skiing, hiking, to name a few of the activities.
